History

SV Werder Bremen is a German professional football club based in the city of Bremen, in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. The club was founded in 1899 as a gymnastics club, but did not start playing football until 1912. 2022-23 season

The 2022-23 season was a challenging one for SV Werder Bremen, who finished 16th in the Bundesliga and had to face a relegation play-off against Holstein Kiel, the third-placed team in the 2. Bundesliga. The club also exited the DFB-Pokal in the second round and the Europa Conference League in the group stage. The club changed managers twice, first sacking Pellegrino Matarazzo in September and then appointing Bruno Labbadia in his place. Labbadia managed to save the club from relegation, as they won the play-off against Holstein Kiel on away goals. The club’s top scorer was Serhou Guirassy, who scored 11 goals in all competitions³

2023-24 season

The 2023-24 season promises to be more exciting, as SV Werder Bremen have made some big changes in their squad and coaching staff. Labbadia has brought in some new faces, such as Maximilian Mittelstädt from Hertha BSC, Jeong Woo-yeong from SC Freiburg, Deniz Undav from Brighton & Hove Albion and Alexander Nübel from Bayern Munich.
